October 2017

Amuse-what?

The idea for this sophisticated, yet no-nonsense event was born of a passion for traditional lambic beers and pure, honest cuisine, both prepared by experts in their respective fields, with the utmost respect for nature and the best it has to offer.
With this passion in mind, Amuse-Gueuze was launched in late 2013.

Amuse-Gueuze is a unique food pairing event that values origin and authenticity above all else, matching natural and seasonal cuisine with traditional lambic beer. The two are not only closely related, but they are also complementary, lifting each other to a higher level.

We hope to see you (again) at one of our upcoming events! So much more than just a nice concept, Amuse-Gueuze is a truly unique experience, something out of the ordinary. It is also my biggest passion, which I'd be more than pleased to share with you.

5th edition: April 21, 22 and 24, 2016 - Souvenir - West-Flanders

For its 5th edition, AG halted in the province of West Flanders. Restaurant Souvenir at Ypres was selected as the location for his "jubilee" edition.

Chef Vilhjalmur Sigurdarson (aka "Villi") has formerly surely earned his stars in famous restaurants such as Texture (London), In De Wulf, Hertog Jan and La Buffette. Together with his wife, Joke Michiel, and the Souvenir team, this chef serves innovative and delicious dishes, based on local products of distinctive integrity and quality. Their menus are always inspired by what the season and nature offer at that moment. The exceptional interior of the place is the icing on the cake.

No surprise that this restaurant was added to the AGs wish list already some time ago. For this jubilee edition the time had arrived...

4th edition: Novemer 26, 28 and 29, 2015 - De Superette - Ghent

This time we descended on Ghent on November 26, 28 and 29. The scene of the action was De Superette, the famous project of Kobe Desmaraults, Rose Greene and Sarah Lembe.

This top restaurant is quite original, as well for its location as for its kitchen. Besides this, passion, authenticity and quality are the centre of their world and work. Exactly as it is with the lambic beers and their masters.

A cooperation was bound to happen. Beyond any doubt and with an indomitable enthusiasm.

3rd edition: March 12, 13 and 14, 2015 - Het Land Aan De Overkant - Leuven

For this third edition, we joined forces with the team at Leuven restaurant Het Land aan de Overkant. Host Luc and chef Wim’s bubbling enthusiasm for beer and food pairing forms a perfect match for Amuse-Gueuze. The duo had a feel for the spirit of the event, and always add a personal touch to their pure and honest way of cooking.

2nd edition: October 17, 18 and 19, 2014 - Colonia - Antwerp

After the overwhelming success of the first edition, we decided to go full speed ahead with the launch of a second event in the same year, again in Antwerp.

This time we teamed up with Loes and Krikke, the two dynamic cooks at slow food catering company Colonia.

Their enthusiasm, authentic cuisine and respect for nature fit so perfectly with our own vision that a partnership with them was almost a given.

And to top it off, Colonia has one of the most gorgeous dining halls in all of Antwerp!

1st edition: May 2, 3 and 4, 2014 - Restaurant Veranda - Antwerp

The young and talented Davy Schellemans (of Flanders Kitchen Rebels, 2013, a platform for emerging chefs) proved to be the ideal partner for our kick-off event, which took place on 2, 3 and 4 May in Chef Davy's Antwerp restaurant, Veranda.

See below for the menu and photos.
