Our story

Over the years, inspirer Karen Blereau developed a great passion for craft lambic beers. Out of genuine interest, she visited many well-known and lesser-known breweries and has since made friends with some of the most fascinating lambic brewers and gueuze blenders in the country. It seemed almost a shame to keep that wonderful world to herself, so she set out to find a way to share her knowledge with others. Natural wines had already earned a place in the culinary world, but why was there no mention of old gueuze? Karen understood that her penchant for honest, seasonal cuisine coincides perfectly with the world of lambic beers. Both are made by passionate people and with enormous respect for nature. So she decided to put these elements at the centre of refined but, above all, no-nonsense foodpairing events. This is how 'Amuse-Gueuze' saw the light of day in 2013.

Vision & mission

Besides dinners and tastings for the public, Amuse-Gueuze decided to expand its range and now also offers unforgettable (tailor-made) experiences to companies. From a fun team event to an introductory day for your international clients, we are happy to help. However, the essence remains the same on every scale: creating unique foodpairing events in a relaxed atmosphere at a great location.

An absolute trump card is our individual yet professional approach. The inspirational force behind the story is lawyer Karen Blereau. She has spent more than 20 years in the corporate world and managed to introduce her personal passion into this biotope. Amuse-Gueuze originated from a true fondness of craft lambic beers. Needless to say, that passion is noticeable in every single thing. When choosing both the food and the lambic beers, the emphasis is on authenticity and quality. We choose local, Belgian products made with respect for nature. Moreover, we dare to say that we have a greater mission in mind.

With our events, we work to connect: we bring people together in a pleasant setting and let them enjoy themselves together. Discovering new tastes, textures and impressions creates a certain openness and engagement. Furthermore, we share information about gueuze in a pleasant and informative way. We take pride in our culinary history and aim to raise awareness around lambic beers and regional Belgian food products. All modesty aside, we are aware that gueuze is called the champagne among beers, so let us fully embrace this, as proud Belgians.

Amuse-Gueuze breathes authenticity and therefore only teams up with lambic brewers and gueuze blenders who work according to the traditional method. It is precisely this small-scale approach with love for nature that determines the rhythm at which the breweries work. This is how purity and quality are best guarded. We also offer a tasting menu with non-alcoholic drinks upon request. Our selection criteria are the same as for the lambic beers: Belgian, authentic and made with respect for nature.

The restaurateurs we partner with are all passionate souls with an incredible respect for nature. They are open-minded and like to challenge themselves again and again. It takes craftsmanship and a serious dose of audacity to work out successful pairings with lambic beers. Each time, it turns out to be a process in which we learn from each other and deepen our knowledge together.

Without a doubt, location is paramount. Amuse-Gueuze looks for characterful, cosy places with the right infrastructure. This is precisely why our events take place in restaurants or venues with a professional kitchen. This allows us to control costs and logistics and, consequently, your budget.
